COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is a 5-day course that entails both didactic and lab sessions. The main topics of discussion includes an overview of Forensics (Dental, Forensic Pathology, and Aerospace), Digital Radiography, Anthropology, Mass Disaster, Bitemarks, Child/Spouse/Elder Abuse, and everything you ever wanted to know about DNA.

Additionally, emphasis will include briefs given by the Director for the Bureau of Legal Dentistry (BOLD), Vancouver, Canada, as well as other agencies such as DMORT and NTSB. There will be a session given by the FBI Unit Chief for Special Photo Operations, which includes both lectures and labs. The course will also provide several labs on the use of computer analysis in pattern injury recognition (Bitemarks) and Anthropology.

COURSE OBJECTIVE
At the completion of the course, participants should be able to perform forensic dental identification of human remains. They should be able to participate and be a valuable asset to an identification team. Furthermore, they will gain an awareness of the myriad of agencies and scientific disciplines in the arena of forensics. This includes an in depth review of bitemark analysis, entailing diagnostics, legal aspects and case studies.

COURSE LOCATION
The course will be held at the Doubletree Hotel, Rockville, Maryland. Rooms have been reserved at a special reduced rate of $128.80 single/$151.20 double, until 17 February 2000. The hotel is easily accessible by airport limousine, taxi, or Metro (on the Red Line to the Twinbrook Metro Station) from National Airport. Limousine pick-up is also available from National, Dulles, and Baltimore/Washington International Airports. Limited parking is available for guests of the hotel for a fee.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT
The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology is a Department of Defense organization and the U.S. Army is designated as the executive agency for the AFIP. Continuing dental education programs sponsored by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, AFIP are offered under the aegis of the U.S. Army Dental Corps, an ADA CERP recognized provider.

The formal continuing education programs of the AFIP are also accepted by the Academy of General Dentistry for Fellowship, Mastership, and membership maintenance credit.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and the American Registry of Pathology. The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians and takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of this CME activity.

The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology designates this educational activity for a maximum of 39 hours in Category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

REGISTRATION
TUITION is $625 before 1 February 2000, $675 afterwards.

Since interest in this course is high, we are offering our Place-holder Registration program. When you use a credit card to register, you will immediately be charged $50 (place-holder fee); the balance will be charged 2 weeks prior to the course at the early bird rate. All place-holder registrations must be received before the expiration of the early-bird registration (Feb 1) In the event of a cancellation, the $50 charge will be retained to cover administrative costs. Place-holder registration is not available to those who pay by check.

Active-duty U.S. military, Department of Defense civilians, full-time permanent Department of Veterans Affairs employees (not residents or fellows), and commissioned officers of the U.S. Public Health Service with authorized approval have a registration fee of $300.

Friends of the AFIP may deduct 10% of the tuition (include membership number on the application form). All discounts apply only to the full tuition cost. NON-U.S. CITIZENS are required to pay the full tuition; they are not eligible for any discounts.

An administrative fee of $50 per registrant will be deducted for cancellation. Refund requests must be received one week prior to the course. No refunds will be made thereafter.

Course fees are payable by check or money order to the American Registry of Pathology or by VISA, MasterCard, or American Express and are due at the time of enrollment. To register by mail, complete the form and send it with payment to the Department of Medical Education at the AFIP. To register by telephone, fax, or email, credit card payment is required.

NON-U.S. CITIZENS
The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology welcomes everyone who wishes to participate in our educational courses. However, because we are a U.S. Department of Defense activity, all foreign citizens wishing to register must do so as follows.
