Figure 22 :นื้อต่อมใต้สมองใน Pars nervosa เป็นส่วนที่มากำเนิดจากเนื้อประสาท (neuroectoderm : the floor of the third ventricle of diencephalon) ประกอบด้วย เซลล์ที่ มีรูปร่างไม่เรียบมีหลายแขนงเรียกว่า pituicytes (pit) ซึ่งเข้าใจว่าเป็น neuroglial cells มี นิวเคลียสกลม ส่วน cytoplasm บรรจุเม็ดสีน้ำตาล นอกจากนั้นพบมี non-myelinated axons จำนวนมากและปลายเส้นประสาทของ hypothalamic neurosecretory neurons ที่ ภายในเข้าใจว่าบรรจุ Herring bodies (her, neurosecretory materials) ซึ่งเป็น membrane-bounded neurosecretory granules รวมกันอยู่ในรูปของ Herring bodies โดย ภายในบรรจุฮอร์โมน ชื่อ oxytocin หรือ vasopressin (ADH, antidiuretic hormone) นอก จากนั้นแต่ละ granule ยังมีองค์ประกอบของ ATP และ neurophysin (a specific hormone-binding protein)
