3. Give oxygen to the infant via a bag and mask.

    - The infant doesn't need intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) via a bag and mask.  Because she responded well to a tactile stimulationand had spontaneous breathing on physical examination.
    - Increased environmental oxygen is only necessary to maintain a PaO2 between 60-80 mmHg.  Most apneic spells in preterm infants respond to gentle tactile stimulation.   Infant who fails to respond to stimulationshould be ventilated during the spells with bag and mask gently with an FiO2 of under 0.4 or equal to the FiO2 prior to the spell, to avoid marked elevation in artereal PO2.
