AMNIOTIC FLUID ASPIRATION

       The relatively normal alveolar spaces are shown. The spaces are empty. Large and small blood vessels show congestion (Fig.1).

      In many areas, the alveolar spaces are filled with light eosinophilic lamellae of squamous epithelial squame derived from fetal skin (Fig.2).

      Bronchioles are also filled with these epithelial squame causing severe compromisation of ventilation. (Fig.3). 

        High magnification shows detail of squamous epithelial squame , an anucleated cytoplasm of  fetal squamous cells. (Fig.4),

       In some areas, many neutrophils are present in the alveolar spaces. (Fig.5).
